Bloomsburg Defeated by California (Pa.) in Women's Basketball

BLOOMSBURG - The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team fell to the Vulcans of California (Pa.), 86-52, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action on Sunday.

The Vulcans sprinted out to a 16-4 lead over the first 5:24 of the first period when Jones connected on the first of her three three-pointers, cutting the lead to 16-7. The Vulcans would respond with a 12-6 run over the next six minutes, courtesy of eight points from Brooque Williams and Kayla Smith. The Vulcan's would stretch their lead to 22 points before Bloomsburg would rally. A three-pointer by Lauren Healy (Glenmoore/Owen J. Roberts) and a pair of Kegerreis free throws in the final three minutes of the first half cut the California lead to 15 points, 42-27.

In the second half, the Vulcans put the game out of reach with a 12-2 run early in the second half that extended the margin to 25 points at 58-33. Bloomsburg did get the deficit to 20 points, 58-38, on a jumper by Stephanie Jones (Philadelphia/Harcum College), but that would be as close as the Huskies got the remainder of the game.

Bloomsburg was led by Jones with 13 points, while Colleen Kegerreis (Schuylkill Haven/ Schuylkill Haven) finished with 11 points and 14 rebounds. Cal was led by Brooque Williams with 33 points.

With the loss the Huskies fall to 4-8 while the Vulcans improve to 11-2. Bloomsburg plays at Slippery Rock on Saturday at 1 p.m.
